For this Friday’s post, I’m going to squish in some Thursday Thought action along with a Week in Review. Watch out! It’s a mash-up! I had a nice morning that was complete with my darling daughter and her aunt. Once the little miss drifted off into nap-land, the ladies chatted about life – our current professional lives, journey in motherhood, and the ultimate quest to find “us”. In the end, what really matters is not the destination, if you ever find a place to call it that, but – you guessed it – the journey you continue to take. And that journey never ends. No worries – this is a good thing.
In true eat. sleep. market. fashion, parallels from our short convo can be made in the professional world. The roadmap to success in a marketing campaign can be long or short; permanent or temporary; memorable or forgettable; effective or unproductive. We often think of the end result – not the roadmap that existed before it. Therefore, instead of thinking about a marketing campaign as a series of produced videos, paid ads or direct mail postcards, remember what happened before those creative hit the target audience. The conversations had. The decisions made. It’s much more – it’s the journey that gave life. It’s the journey that will be reviewed, altered, updated, improved, or traveled again. All to ensure that results happen.
Here are a few marketing campaigns from this week that definitely have a thoughtful journey with the goal to stir up thoughts, actions, and results!
1. Happy National Donut Day!
Today the country can celebrate national donut day by its founder, Salvation Army volunteers during World War I. I know, right?! And of course, national donut chains will be participating with giveaways and contests.
2. Magazines Cash In with iPad Ads
Definitely an avenue for additional growth, it’s great to see magazines are finding additional ways to monetize on mobile devices. Although I am a magazine junky at heart [I can’t get enough of ripping out cologne/perfume ads and just thumbing through actual pages – I know, I’m just so old], it’s a relief to know that this industry may not die but evolve and move with the times.
3. H&M Uses Plus-Size Model in Summer Ad
Love this H&M campaign. For one, she looks phenomenal. Two, she’s from a city close to my hometown of St. Louis! Using a plus-size model in a marketing campaign for a clothing store that typically does not showcase a bigger [but really, she’s not that big at all] gal always seems to stir up some sort of media attention. The cool stance from H&M? They launched the campaign without a hitch – no hidden agenda, no press release, no announcement. It’s just their summer ads. And it’s awesome.
