A Reflection on Thanksgiving

November 30, 2013

Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday! So much fun was had by all, and I’m extremely thankful we were able to spend many special moments around several family members – many were people that Mads met for the very first time. And not only was the visit great, but the family trip was definitely an experience {and obviously one that will be repeated hundreds of times for many years to come}. We safely returned home, started a few loads of laundry and kicked our feet up after a very long day.

A few thoughts as we were knee-deep in the 11-hour car ride home – my reflection on Thanksgiving:

Time passes so quickly. We blinked our eyes, and the days of us traveling to relatives’ homes with our parents soon passed. Now, we are those parents, sipping on coffee, whispering softly so we do not to disturb our love that quietly sleeps in the backseat. Thinking back to the travels in our youth is something to be cherished and also brings understanding to those brave, patient moms and dads that went before us. How they did it all, I don’t know. But we are attempting it now. And I wouldn’t trade these exhausted moments for anything.

Home is where the heart is, and though we traveled hundreds of miles, home is where we stayed.

Hope everyone had a fantastic, turkey-filled day with tons of laughter and stories among family and friends. What a way to kick off this incredible holiday season!
