I have a few decorations left over from Mads’ first birthday party. It’s been almost a year since the celebration but I definitely do not intend to part with some pieces because I love them! I love her name banner and I really adore the huge tissue flowers we made to accent the room. However, I wanted to add another element to accent this wall and I finally found it! POM POMS! Super easy DIY project that can be used for any event/room.
Step 01 // Pick up yarn you love. We traveled to Big Lots and got these super inexpensive skeins of yarn that very closely matched the colors I needed. One skein = one pom pom.
Step 02 // Remove wrapping and tightly tie a piece of yarn around the entire skein. I did this and then I also found another piece of heavy twine to tie it around for double-duty, because why not. If it’s really inexpensive yarn, like mine, it felt a little too stretched, which made me worry the yarn would just snap. The second tying of twine was for reinforcement.
Step 03 // Cut through the loops on the top and bottom of the skein. (OR, if you have really sharp scissors, just cut off the top.)
This is what you will have once all the loops are cut. Next, trim, trim, trim and trim some more until you have the perfect sized pom pom you are looking for.
I wanted something a little tighter so my pom poms ended up a little smaller but still perfect for what I wanted to achieve. If you are hoping to have bigger pom poms, go with a bigger skein of yarn.
I tied the three together on a single piece of twine, and there you have it! Just a fun little accent wall for our little girl 🙂 We are kinda loving the white, gold/yellow and pink combination, if you couldn’t tell! Let me know if you make your own – such a quick and fun way to spruce up a wall.
